Music for the Masses é o sexto álbum de estúdio da banda inglesa Depeche Mode, lançado em 28 de Setembro de 1987. Foi a primeira vez que o Depeche Mode usou uma guitarra, e depois nunca mais a deixou de usar em suas canções e álbuns posteriores. É considerada a terceira obra-prima da banda cronologicamente e a segunda em importância. Esse álbum marca o que foi considerado pela crítica um verdadeiro "salto musical". A partir deste, o Depeche Mode quebrou barreiras, se estabeleceu como um dos maiores representantes da música eletrônica e um dos mais influentes grupos alternativos da sua época. O álbum foi confeccionado quando a banda estava em um dos seus auges de inspiração musical, fazendo um estrondoso sucesso nos Estados Unidos e espalhando a fama da banda pelo mundo definitivamente. Foi considerado um álbum bastante experimental e ainda um dos melhores dos anos 80, também devido à decisão do Depeche Mode de abandonar os samplers e partir para um som mais experimental, usando sintetizadores analógicos. Esse álbum é constantemente citado como uma grande inspiração para a emergente música eletrônica do início dos anos 90 (especialmente a dance), mesmo com a não tão boa recepção das mudanças no Reino Unido. Até mesmo bandas de rock e new metal como Smashing Pumpkins e Deftones admitem terem sido fortemente inspirados pela banda e por esse álbum em especial. Entretanto, é um álbum profundo, introspectivo, outrora obscuro e dançante. É disco de platina nos EUA, chegou a 35° lugar e 10° no Reino Unido e lançou o grande sucesso "Strangelove", tomada como uma obra de arte das pistas de dança. Bem como a fortíssima "Never Let Me Down Again" e "Behind The Wheel". Destaques para "To Have and to Hold", "I Want You Now" , a assustadora "Agent Orange" uma música instrumental que retrata a guerra fria, e a introspectiva e obscura "The things you said". Outra escolha considerada injusta pelos fãs foi ter feito de "Little 15" um single. It was directed and filmed by Blue Leach on 18 and 19 February at the Fila Forum in Assago near Milan, Italy, and was released on 25 September 2006.[1] It was also released in a special edition 3-disc set. The first disc features the full concert & extra songs (that were played on the other Milan show), while the second disc contains documentaries on the movie, interviews with the band, Anton Corbijn (who designed the stage), extra songs (that were played on the other Milan show), tour projections, and more. Finally, the third disc is an audio CD containing every song from Playing the Angel that was played at the two shows. In the United States the three-disc set is packaged in a digipak and the standard two-disc set, containing only the two DVDs, is in a keep case. One day before its American release, 25 September, the movie was screened for a one-time only show, which also included the documentary video, in various United States theatres.
