Martyr - 7 anos!

Today In Depeche Mode History (October 30th):

Single Release
Martyr CD single, UK
(2006)

depechemode.com

"Martyr" is the 45th UK single by Depeche Mode. It was released as a non-album single intended to promote the new compilation, The Best Of, Volume 1, that was released on 13 November 2006. [2] The single was released on 30 October 2006 in three formats: CD single, CD maxi and DVD single. There was also a limited edition double-12" single (L12BONG39) featuring four remixes of previous Depeche Mode tracks.
The song, originally titled "Martyr for Love", is a well-known missing track from the Playing the Angel sessions. The song was mentioned on one of the FletchCam videos (where it can faintly be heard playing in the background), and was mentioned in interviews. Playing the Angel programmer Dave McCracken has said that it was considered by the band as the first single from Playing the Angel but it did not make the album due to its poppier sound, when compared with other album tracks.[3]
There are no other new songs on the single; the B-sides are remixes of Martyr and previous releases.
The single became Depeche Mode's 35th to hit the UK Top 20.
A video was being directed by Andreas Nilsson, who was reportedly hired because Dave Gahan was impressed by his video for The Knife's "Silent Shout".[4] The video was made in Gothenburg, Sweden, and members of the group do not appear in it.[5] The band subsequently rejected this video, which was replaced with a video montage released on 8 October 2006 and directed by Robert Chandler, in which Dave Gahan seemingly sings the song, this being achieved by the succession of short clips of Depeche Mode's videos in which Dave either says the words featured in the lyrics of "Martyr", or he lip-syncs the lyrics, meaning that his lips move in a similar fashion of that when the words in the lyrics are being said. Oddly, it does not appear on their Best Of DVD compilation.

Depeche Mode maneuvers to the top slot on Hot Tours with $17.8 million in concert grosses reported from the North American leg of the band's Delta Machine world tour that ran from late August to mid-October. The trek through U.S. and Canadian cities was booked primarily at outdoor amphitheaters but also included four arenas, a state fair grandstand, showrooms in Las Vegas and Atlantic City casinos and an appearance at the Austin City Limits Music Festival.

The English band's tour in support of its most recent album, Delta Machine launched on May 4 in Nice, France, the first date on a three-month swing through 21 European countries. With revenue added from the subsequent North American leg, overall grosses from the ongoing world tour currently total $99.9 million from 54 concerts. During the past five months, 1.4 million fans on two continents have seen the veteran electronic/alternative music group in concert.

Michael Bublé earns the second slot among the 10 top-grossing tours of the week with $3 million in reported sales from concerts at arenas in Dallas, San Antonio and Houston. The Canadian singer is currently on the road in North America through the end of November, touring behind the April release of his "To Be Loved" album. He will return to the road in early January with European venues booked during the first quarter of 2014, followed by an Australian leg in April and May.

Florida Georgia Line lands at No. 7 on the Hot Tours recap with $1.3 million in ticket sales reported from the first seven venues on the country duo's Here's to the Good Times tour that launched on Oct. 3 at Swiftel Center in Brookings, S.D. The Republic Nashville recording act has been on the road this year supporting Luke Bryan on his Dirt Road Diaries tour as well as select dates with Taylor Swift, but Here's to the Good Times marks their first outing as headliners. The tour is set to play 32 U.S. cities through mid-December.

J. Cole ranks ninth on the Hot Tours tally with sales reported from eight stops on his What Dreams May Come tour, currently on the road in North America through Nov. 1. One of the venues, Massey Hall in Toronto, hosted the rapper for two sold out shows (Oct. 8-9) with a combined total of 5,117 fans in attendance. A European leg of the tour will kick off on Nov. 10 in Copenhagen and wrap in Dublin on Dec. 11.

Phoenix e New Order

But Not Tonight - 27 anos!

Today In Depeche Mode History (October 22nd):
Single Release
But Not Tonight, USA
(1986)

"Stripped" is Depeche Mode's fifteenth UK single, released on 10 February 1986. It was the first single from the album Black Celebration, and the band's thirteenth overall and sixth consecutive single to hit the UK Top 20, peaking at number 15. "Stripped" is well known for its innovative use of sampling. The underlying beat is a distorted and slowed-down sound of a motorcycle engine running, while the main melody begins with a car's ignition starting, and the end uses sounds of fireworks.[1]
The band's U.S. label Sire Records, however, decided to use the B-side "But Not Tonight" on the soundtrack to the movie Modern Girls and included the song on US editions of Black Celebration. As a result, the single was flipped, and released as "But Not Tonight" in the United States to help promote the movie. The band was not happy with this decision, seeing "But Not Tonight" as a useless pop track recorded in less than a day. The single did not chart. Surprisingly, despite previous criticism of the song by the band, an acoustic version of "But Not Tonight" was sometimes performed by Martin Gore on Depeche Mode’s Delta Machine Tour.[2]
The other two B-Sides are "Breathing in Fumes" and "Black Day". "Breathing in Fumes" was a new song using samples from "Stripped", mixed by the band and Thomas Stiehler. "Black Day" is an acoustic, alternate version of "Black Celebration" sung by Martin Gore, and is co-written by him, Alan Wilder, and producer Daniel Miller - the only Depeche Mode song where Miller receives a writing credit.
The "Highland Mix" of "Stripped" was mixed by Mark Ellis (better known as Flood), who in the future would produce Depeche Mode's Violator and Songs of Faith and Devotion records. UK Editions of the Black Celebration CD include the extended remix of "But Not Tonight" along with "Black Day", and "Breathing in Fumes" as bonus tracks.
The music video for "Stripped" was the last Depeche Mode video to be directed by Peter Care and was filmed outside of Hansa Studios. The music video for "But Not Tonight" was directed by Tamra Davis and is available in multiple versions.

Oh God it's raining
But I'm not complaining
It's filling me up with new life
The stars in the sky
Bring tears to my eyes
They're lighting my way tonight

And I haven't felt so alive
In years

Just for a day
On a day like today
I'll get away from this constant debauchery
The wind in my hair
Makes me so aware
How good it is to live tonight

And I haven't felt so alive
In years

The moon
Is shining in the sky
Reminding me
Of so many other nights
But they're not like tonight

Oh God it's raining
And I'm not containing
My pleasure at being so wet
Here on my own
All on my own
How good it feels to be alone tonight

And I haven't felt so alive
In years

The moon
Is shining in the sky
Reminding me
Of so many other nights
When my eyes had been so red
I'd been mistaken for dead
But not tonight

Useless - 16 anos!

Today In Depeche Mode History (October 20th):
Single Release
Useless, UK
(1997)

"Useless" is Depeche Mode's thirty-fourth UK single, released on October 20, 1997, and the fourth and final single for the album Ultra. It was released with "Home" as a double A-side in the US due to "Useless" getting airplay on US radio stations before "Home" was announced.
"Useless" is an industrial rock track in the vein of "Barrel of a Gun", with more of a pop twist. The single remix, by Alan Moulder, changes the intro and has an updated beat (similar to the changes done to the 7" versions of "Walking In My Shoes" and "Condemnation"), and adds some extra synth during the chorus. It also contains more grainy vocals. The "The Kruder + Dorfmeister Session" is a very prominent remix by the DJ duo of the same name. On the US single, the single remix is replaced by the CJ Bolland Ultrasonar Edit.
There are no actual B-sides for "Useless", except for remixes and live versions of the song. Some versions of the CD single feature the videos for "Barrel of a Gun" and "It's No Good", accessible when the disc is inserted into a PC.
The 1997 music video for "Useless" was the last Depeche Mode video to be directed by Anton Corbijn for more than eight years. Though he still did some work for Depeche Mode on album/single covers and tour projections/designs, the band decided to experiment with new directors for music videos. Corbijn's next project with Depeche Mode was the video for "Suffer Well".
Depeche Mode licensed the Kruder And Dorfmeister remix of "Useless" to Victoria's Secret, for use in their "Natural Miracle Bra" ad campaign. It aired on US television for a few weeks.[1]

Well it's about time
It's beginning to hurt
Time you made up your mind
Just what is it all worth

All my useless advice
All my hanging around
All your cutting down to size
All my bringing you down

Watch the clock on the wall
Feel the slowing of time
Hear a voice in the hall
Echoing in my mind

All your stupid ideals
You've got your head in the clouds
You should see how it feels
With your feet on the ground

Here I stand the accused
With your fist in my face
Feeling tired and bruised
With the bitterest taste

All my useless advice
All my hanging around
All your cutting down to size
All my bringing you down

All your stupid ideals
You've got your head in the clouds
You should see how it feels

Playing The Angel - 8 anos!

Os seus singles são "Precious", "John The Revelator/Lilian", "Suffer Well" (essa escrita por Dave Gahan) e "A Pain That I'm Used To".
Destaque para as não-singles "The Sinner In Me", "Nothing Is Impossible" e menção honrosa para "The Darkest Star".
